Looking to save on your next PC purchase? Today we’re talking about used gaming PCs in India – We’ll go through both Pros, and Cons to see if it’s really worth it.
Pro #1: Saving Costs.
Obviously buying a pre-owned PC immediately drops the cost of your purchase by 30-50%. So in a market where 80% of all the Electronics are purchased in the second hand market. It’s clear that saving costs is our number 1 priority.
But – is there really any other benefit? And is that really cost saved? Because we are not really measuring costs that are associated after buying your PC – That is actually a Con, which leads to the Cons of buying a second hand PCs because there isn’t really any other Pro…
Con #1: Warranties
Warranty & Service becomes the biggest issue, many manufacturers (like Zotac) have a non-transferrable warranty policy, which means even if your parts are under warranty period. Manufacturers can reject your claim… and that’s a big L.
Con #2: GREY Market
A lot of Electronics that get sold through unverified sellers are from the “Grey” Market. These can be prototypes, testing models & second-copies that aren’t original and they don’t have a verified Serial Number.
So if you go for any support while having “grey market” parts – they will simply get rejected by the manufacturer – even for a paid service.
Con #3: Performance
All the previous cons eventually lead to this. Your pre-owned PC might work when you got it. But there’s no guarantee for how long.
Whether that’s sub-par performance, lagging or hanging issues – the only option for you is to go for a charged service by the manufacturer or a local service centre… Not an ideal option for something you need for your work.
Con #4: Shady Sellers & Scams.
While India is the biggest Second Hand Market, it is also home to the biggest scams (Looking at you, Jamtara) – Grey Market, Refurbished & Damaged components are just a handful of issues under a plethora of tricks that shady sellers use to scrape out every last penny out of your pocket.
And don’t take our word for it – Take Reddit’s
Con #5: GST
Now, this may make us sound Biassed. But we proudly are.
Not a single rupee goes to the Government on your purchase – which Ideally should. For a lot of people this might not make a difference. But it is for those lot of people whose streets will go uncleaned for weeks… think about it. #deshbhaktbano #GSTpaykaro
Con #6: Data Security
Now, if you’re getting your PC for your work – this can be the worst thing, because you don’t know how the previous owner has used their PC, if there is malware or your PC’s IP is exposed – there’s a good chance of a data breach.
Although, You can avoid this by formatting the system completely and performing a clean OS installation. However, that would require you to get a new Windows Activation Key.
