Nvidia Ampere vs Ada Lovelace Architecture Ft. RTX A6000 vs RTX 6000 Ada –  Benchmarks | TheMVP

Did you know you can save 3 lakhs if you get an RTX A6000 instead of an RTX 6000 Ada? While most people assume that they are the same – there are still many things people overlook and today in this blog, we will speak facts with the help of benchmarks and answer the infamous “is RTX 6000 Ada worth it?”

But before that, you should know that this blog is not just for gamers. Mainly focusing on the 3D and AI part – Nvidia released these workstation GPUs in the late 2020s with the use case being for applications such as Blender, Maya, and Vray, as well as for technologies like AI, machine learning, and cloud computing in companies like AWS, Google, and Microsoft. 

But don’t fret looking at the use cases – we’ve seen people playing Minecraft on Server PCs like this in 4K with 1000+ fps (lol)

The topic for another day I guess – for now let’s not get distracted and focus on the RTX A6000 vs 6000 Ada.

At first glance, these two GPUs look fairly identical. They have the same 48 GB GDDR6 memory, four display ports, and a power draw of 300W – what makes the difference here, is their architecture. The RTX 6000 Ada is built on the Ada Lovelace architecture whereas the RTX A6000 is made on the Ampere architecture.

The Ada Lovelace has roughly 2 times the cores than the Ampere architecture while having the same power draw of 300W. This means that no matter what application you use, going for RTX 6000 Ada means 1.5 to 2 times more performance across all AI applications, faster 3D Render times with workload managed much more efficiently.

The only place where Ampere architecture stands out is the support for NV-Link. However, very few applications can actually benefit from this feature. In most recent AI and 3D applications, NV-Link for multi-GPU support is not necessarily required (you can have a multi-GPU setup without NVLink).

Looking at the benchmarks, you can clearly see what we were talking about.

Starting with VRay benchmarks based on CUDA and RTX cores – the Ada GPUs crushes the Ampere with a major difference.

On the second number, if we look at blender benchmarks with render mode on Cuda and Optix – the RTX 6000 Ada still outperforms!

But we might miss the real thing if we didn’t test this with the Nvidia Omniverse and AGAIN – Ada is ahead crushing the Non-Ada’s head! (writer has a nice humor)

So if the RTX 6000 Ada is so good with much better efficiency –  why are people still buying the A6000? The answer is simple – price. The RTX 6000 Ada is almost 2x more expensive than the RTX A6000, so basically for double the price, you get double the performance. And not to forget about the electricity bills by the way. (Ada can save 50% of your bills too)

Now let’s answer the big question – should you go for RTX A6000 or 6000 Ada?

Well, if you want a GPU that is cost-effective and gets the job done without a fail – RTX A6000 will be the option to go for – but if time is money for you – RTX 6000 Ada will keep all your deliveries on time.
