The RTX 4080 comes in two models – the Laptop RTX 4080 and the Desktop RTX 4080. So they should perform the same right? No! And here’s what we discussing in this blog. Let’s begin.
Looking on paper – as you can also see below, the desktop GPU has 31% more CUDA cores with much more power draw allowing the graphics processor to reach higher clock speeds. This GPU, in addition to that, has 33% more VRAM with faster GGDR6X memory and a bigger memory bus.
And to keep the GPU comparison fully unbiased, the PC and Laptop – both have Intel Core i9 14900HX (24C/32T) – K series for PC, paired with the RTX 4080 graphics card.
A big thing to note: A Laptop GPU is programmed to have lower power limits keeping the RTX 4080 cool even at its full usage. But because of the laptop size, even the air coolers couldn’t just calm down and produce audible fan noise.
And while the desktop makes less noise consuming 58% more power when running Cyberpunk 2077 – it looks all worth it when looking at its offering – peace of mind with a Desktop PC.
Talking more about cooling, apart from the Laptop making more noise – it’s also the one with high temperatures (up to 87° C). Looking closely, we see that a Water Cooled Laptop works just as fine as the Air Cooled PC.
But let’s hold this technical stuff for now and look at the gaming benchmarks – the desktop RTX 4080 surpassed the laptop RTX 4080 by over 40% in total gaming performance.

And to sum it all up – here is another benchmark showing how much better the desktop RTX 4080 is than the Laptop RTX 4080 (in %).
But let’s not judge too soon – talking about the productive tasks, we started the test with Blender.
Bending to the Davinci Resolve 18.1.2, we still see a massive jump in scores when running it on a desktop PC.
So if in every aspect desktop RTX 4080 is better than the laptop RTX 4080, then why do people still choose the Laptop RTX 4080? Well, the simple reason is portability.
But look at it in this way as well – An RTX 4080 PC will cost you ₹40,000 less than an RTX 4080 Laptop due to which is also a reason that getting a Laptop doesnt make sense. Because if you’re getting a 4080, it’s obviously for serious work – which you will mostly do in your office or home.
